Geaux Tigers & Joe Burrow #nattychamps — but NOT Geaux Out-Of-State-Tuition. And here are the main two reasons why I decided to leave the best college in the nation.
Can we talk about college tuition for a second? Like… Who decided to make it SO F****** EXPENSIVE?! A major turn-off. People have justified $40,000/year as “yeah its expensive but you’re paying for the experience.” Can we please reevaluate this. I would like to experience Tigerland and football season in a less expensive way please.
I know what you are thinking. “Maybe it was just LSU.” But that isn’t it. I love Baton Rouge & LSU more than anything, its just the school part that is extremely unfulfilling. After also attending college elsewhere and not paying out-of-state tuition, I’ve come to the conclusion that the college learning style just isn’t for me. I’m an extremely passionate person and LOVE learning. Anyone that knows me can vouch for that. But not in the traditional setting of a 4-year college. I hateeeeee it. I would rather watch online courses from Skillshare or YouTube all day. Or have phone calls with people in the industry. Or learn by doing through unpaid internships. & that is ok!! I do not AT ALL lack drive or passion.
It’s almost been taught to us that we can’t succeed without college. & maybe that’s how it used to be. Shit, maybe that’s still how it is. But what does need to be addressed is the fact that college really isn’t meant for entrepreneurs and creatives. The generations before us taught us that success comes after college, but the internet has completely broken all of those rules and regulations. You can be 18 years old and make over $200,000 a year simply from posting things on the Internet. Now don’t get me wrong, education has its place for lawyers, doctors, teachers, and other certain career paths. But with the resources that the internet has given us, I do not think that college is the source of all information and learning anymore. I even think it might be a little behind in a sense of teaching aspiring content creators what they need to know.
I’m not saying this as any encouragement to drop out of college, I am just sharing my personal thoughts and confusions with it all. I am still enrolled in college & will finish my degree due to the fact that 1) I am scared not to honestly and 2) I’ve already invested $80,000 into it so that would be stupid of me to not finish it. I just wanted to address the elephant in the room & to also let anyone else know that it is okay if you don’t think college is for you! That doesn’t mean that you’re lazy or a failure.
